Studeies on Pharmacological Actions of 2-2¢¥ Methylene bis(3,4,6, Trichlorophenoxy Acetic Acir(MTPA)

Abstract
It was reported previously that 2-2¢¥methylene bis-(3,4,6, trichlorophenoxy acetic acid) (MTPA) has low toxicity and similar therapeutic effect on Clonorchiasis in rabbit when comoared with those of hexachlorophene and its piperazine and pyridine salts.
The present report describes the results of studies on general pharmacological, antibacterial and parasiticidal action of MTPA.
1. Pharmacological actions.
The Pharmacological actions of MTPA on isolated heart of frog and isolated intestine and uterus of rabbit were not remarkable in low concentrations while movement of those organs were inhibited markemdly in high concentrations and the uterus was the most sensitive to MTPA.
On blood vessels of isolated ear of rabbit perfused with MTPA in Ringer solution, no significant changes were noted.
On blood pressure and respiration of rabbit, no considerable changes were observed in dose of 15§·£¯§¸ intravenously.
2. Antibacterial action
Antibacterial action of MTPA on Bacillus, subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Shigella flexneri and Salmonella typhi was more potent than phenol while less potent than hexachlorophene. In general, it was more effective on Staphylococcus aureus
3. Prarasiticidal action
Parasiticidal action of MTPA on clonorchis sinensis in vitro was less potent than dithiazanine iodide and gentian violet in high concentrations while more potent in low contrations.
To earth worm it was less effective than hexachlorophene, while more effective than alcopa and dithiazanine iodide.
